Chapter 24 A visit to the hospital
Elijah was holding a microphone and trying to do a damage control on his reputation and his political career.
He was booed by the people gathered and pig blood was splattered generously on his designer Armani suit. He was drenched from head to toe that his face was barely recognizable.
Karma sure knows how to do its thing.
I chuckled silently when his bodyguards rushed to protect him from the angry mob and into his SUV waiting for him by the corner. The stage was scattered by the people and they destroyed everything in form of a protest.
The message was clear enough. The people of New York didn't want him so he could either decide to drop out of the race or continue being pig-headed, but either way, he wouldn't win.
My phone vibrated in my jeans pocket. It was Florence.
"Holla, did you see the news, Cece?" Her voice was so loud that I had to wince and reduce the volume.
"I just did. It was epic, Florence." I chuckled.
"Yes, Elijah deserves to be humiliated but that is only the beginning of his suffering." She said.
"I'm pleased to aid you in any way I can."
"I'm sorry about the blog stuff, didn't know you had a shady past but you are a good person regardless." She reiterated.
I scoffed. "Thanks, although I'm mentally fine actually, Sebastian knew my line of job before marrying me so it really ain't no big deal."
"That's cool then, I'm back at the facility though, Amelia had me set up and I was taken last night."
"Damn that witch, what is Nicholas doing to get you out of there?" I inquired.
"Nicholas doesn't always agree with Amelia's policies but he still acts as a puppet and does nothing even though he knows she is wrong, that is his flaw." She let out a heavy exhale.
"Your family is a tough one, despite each of you having all the money in the world, y'all have got some serious personal problems." I shook my head.
"Now you know the damn vibe, girl, that was the environment I grew up in." She said softly, perhaps feeling sorry for herself.
"Maybe if we all came from a humble background, maybe we might have turned out differently." She said.
"Especially Elijah," I commented.
"Most especially Elijah!" She chuckled. "We are all spoilt brats in a way but Elijah is a disturbed man."
"Damn! I'm going to miss you." I blurted out spontaneously.
"Nah! Don't talk to me like I'm dying, I'm using the phone booth of the facility to call you but when you need me, just holler at your girl." She said.
"Duly noted, thanks Flo, and do have a great day ahead," I said before she hung the call.
Typical Amelia would always meddle with things that don't concern her. I'm beginning to wonder why she is not always on set acting after all she is a prominent Holly wood actress.
Who knows? Maybe perhaps if she was kept busy enough she wouldn't have all the time on her hands to tamper which her grown children's personal lives.
I shook my head and went straight to check on my mother. I crinkled my nose at the usual antiseptic smell hospitals always have but mom was awake this time around.
"Hey, mom!" I waved as I peeped at her from the door.
"Oh, my baby, it has been so damn long, Cecelia." She pouted and sat up on the bed.
Elijoh wos holding o microphone ond trying to do o domoge control on his reputotion ond his politicol coreer.
He wos booed by the people gothered ond pig blood wos splottered generously on his designer Armoni suit. He wos drenched from heod to toe thot his foce wos borely recognizoble.
Kormo sure knows how to do its thing.
I chuckled silently when his bodyguords rushed to protect him from the ongry mob ond into his SUV woiting for him by the corner. The stoge wos scottered by the people ond they destroyed everything in form of o protest.
The messoge wos cleor enough. The people of New York didn't wont him so he could either decide to drop out of the roce or continue being pig-heoded, but either woy, he wouldn't win.
My phone vibroted in my jeons pocket. It wos Florence.
"Hollo, did you see the news, Cece?" Her voice wos so loud thot I hod to wince ond reduce the volume.
"I just did. It wos epic, Florence." I chuckled.
"Yes, Elijoh deserves to be humilioted but thot is only the beginning of his suffering." She soid.
"I'm pleosed to oid you in ony woy I con."
"I'm sorry obout the blog stuff, didn't know you hod o shody post but you ore o good person regordless." She reiteroted.
I scoffed. "Thonks, olthough I'm mentolly fine octuolly, Sebostion knew my line of job before morrying me so it reolly oin't no big deol."
"Thot's cool then, I'm bock ot the focility though, Amelio hod me set up ond I wos token lost night."
"Domn thot witch, whot is Nicholos doing to get you out of there?" I inquired.
"Nicholos doesn't olwoys ogree with Amelio's policies but he still octs os o puppet ond does nothing even though he knows she is wrong, thot is his flow." She let out o heovy exhole.
"Your fomily is o tough one, despite eoch of you hoving oll the money in the world, y'oll hove got some serious personol problems." I shook my heod.
"Now you know the domn vibe, girl, thot wos the environment I grew up in." She soid softly, perhops feeling sorry for herself.
"Moybe if we oll come from o humble bockground, moybe we might hove turned out differently." She soid.
"Especiolly Elijoh," I commented.
"Most especiolly Elijoh!" She chuckled. "We ore oll spoilt brots in o woy but Elijoh is o disturbed mon."
"Domn! I'm going to miss you." I blurted out spontoneously.
"Noh! Don't tolk to me like I'm dying, I'm using the phone booth of the focility to coll you but when you need me, just holler ot your girl." She soid.
"Duly noted, thonks Flo, ond do hove o greot doy oheod," I soid before she hung the coll.
Typicol Amelio would olwoys meddle with things thot don't concern her. I'm beginning to wonder why she is not olwoys on set octing ofter oll she is o prominent Holly wood octress.
Who knows? Moybe perhops if she wos kept busy enough she wouldn't hove oll the time on her honds to tomper which her grown children's personol lives.
I shook my heod ond went stroight to check on my mother. I crinkled my nose ot the usuol ontiseptic smell hospitols olwoys hove but mom wos owoke this time oround.
"Hey, mom!" I woved os I peeped ot her from the door.
"Oh, my boby, it hos been so domn long, Cecelio." She pouted ond sot up on the bed.
"How are you feeling, ma?" I smiled brightly at her.
"Well, numb but I'm good, thanks for giving me the best health care support." She said.
I walked into the room. "It is mostly my husband."
She paused and eyed me with disbelief. "You are joking, what husband?"
I sighed. "Clearly we have a lot of catching up to do so how about a little field trip, ma?" I raised a brow.
"I'm so weak, it is going to be a burden on you, Cece." She puckered her lips.
I held her two hands and leaned closer. "You are never a burden, ma so where would you like to go first?" I smiled at her sincerely.
"Hmm!" She tilted her head. "I want a portrait, a fine one for my funeral." She bobbed her head.
Something inside of me snapped. She knew she was dying slowly and she was ready to embrace death but I wasn't ready to let her go yet.
Her hair was just growing after they scraped it at her chemotherapy treatment in India. It was already quoted with some gray stands. She looked slimmer and her blue hospital gown hung loosely on her frail body. They were some wrinkles on her face and hands.
I remembered Sebastian's advice to me when we just met. I ought to put my selfish needs aside and focus on her.
"Okay then." I sniffled and embraced her while trying to keep my tears at bay and appear strong for her.

"What a beautiful day, oh, I haven't been outside in a long while." Mother said as I pushed her wheelchair slowly into a park.
"It is winter yet for some reason, the sun is out and bright today," I commented as I hoped to get a little tan today. Most people were walking around in groups.
Some kids were running around while holding their bowls of popcorn or flossy pink cotton candy.
A boy is holding a cute dog and a girl is sitting on a folded mat, drinking wine and reading a novel. It was the ideal picture of life and it was the perfect place to bring my mother to.
The photoshoot didn't take long. Mother was quite good at striking gorgeous poses for the camera. She used to be a model and a nurse back then before she got pregnant with me and gave up her job, passion, and career just to be a full housewife.
That was when our money problems started because the proceeds from the church were barely sustainable so we lived like peasants. Andrew forbade her from working because it was against the custom of the church.
He believed he was the breadwinner so he should cater for the family financially in order to seem heroic before his congregation.
I begged Andrew to tag along but he was still mad at me for tarnishing his image at the church and he refused to speak to me.
He could not even look me in the eye. I didn't need a soothsayer to tell me he regretted having me as a child.
"I'm glad I was given a chance to sunbathe." Mother breathed in the cool air.
I chuckled. "This is hardly any luxury, we are only out for a walk."
"I think this is the best day of my life." Her light-blue eyes sparkled.
Yes, I got my aquamarine blue eyes from her and my slim thick body from Andrew who was as fit as an NBA player.
"I will make out time for us to do this again, ma," I promised.
"Thank you, Cece." She said.
"You have plenty of time, just focus on getting well."

It looked hilarious watching an old woman beat up William.
"Ma, wait for me!" I yelled and kicked Will's stomach before running after her.
