PAULA'S POV

Voltaire and I started rolling over and over as soon as we jumped off the horse, who kept on running away. When I opened my eyes, I saw Voltaire's face an inch away from mine.

He was on top of me, groaning with pain. He opened his eyes too, and he met my gaze.

"Paula, are you alright?" he asked me immediately.

"I-I'm alright... how about you?"

He moved away from me, and we both sat upon the ground. "Peter wasn't in a good mood today. He had never made such a fuss before. I don't know what happened to him."

"Maybe he didn't want me to ride him?" I said.

"Mel and I used to ride him together before."

"Then maybe he knows that I'm not the real Melissa?"

Voltaire looked at me. "I don't think so. I think he's not just in the mood. Maybe I forced him."

I didn't speak anymore after that. I looked at myself, and I realized that my jeans got somehow ripped off, and so did my clothes. I also got some scratches on my skin. I looked at Voltaire, and I realized that he got even more scratches than mine. He was hugging me when we fell. That's why he was the one who got hurt the most.

"Are you alright, Voltaire?" I asked him.

"I'm alright. We need to go back to the ranch before it gets dark," he said as he stood.

We roamed our eyes around the forest.

"Do you still know the way back?" I asked him.

He shrugged. "Peter ran past the place where we used to go to. I've never been into this place."

"So, how are we going to go back there? Peter ran into different directions so we wouldn't be able to determine which direction we should go."

"Did you bring your phone with you?"

"No," I answered.

He shook his head then he started rummaging through the pocket of his jeans. I heaved a sigh of relief when he took his phone out. He dialed something on it then he looked at me with a disappointed look on his face. "I don't think there's signal reception here. I can't call any of them--Damn it, my phone just died. I forgot to charge it before we went here."
PAULA'S POV

"I guess we don't have any choice but to guess the way," he said to me.

"Guess the way? Are you crazy? Can't you see that it's starting to get dark? What if a wild bear or fox suddenly appears and eats us? What if all of a sudden, rain starts pouring down? What if---

"Alright, alright, then maybe we should just look for a place where we can stay the night, is that what you are trying to say?" he said while looking at me.

I looked away. "As we have a choice. That's the best thing we can do to stay alive."

"Okay. Then let's go now."

Voltaire and I started walking. I couldn't even step my left foot properly since I think it hit the ground when we fell from the horse. Voltaire was walking ahead of me, and I was following him.

"I don't know, but we should at least try to find one," he said while looking around.
